In the 24 hours ending 11 July 07:30 UTC, the US-Iran ceasefire came under new pressure. Araqchi, Iran’s foreign minister, accused Washington of breaking the Islamabad agreement after new US sanctions on Iran.
The agreement had said no new US sanctions would be imposed. Iran said both sides now needed “mutual compliance” for the deal to survive.
Donald Trump, US president, gave Iran a new direct threat. He said the US military had orders to destroy targets across Iran if Iran tried to assassinate him.
Washington also demanded that Iran publicly say the Strait of Hormuz is open. US officials also demanded an end to attacks on commercial shipping after Saturday’s Iran-Oman talks.
Iran told US officials that recent attacks on shipping came from “an errant part” of its system. Commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz still slowed sharply, with only five visible merchant ships completing transit.
Trump also spoke with Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi crown prince, about the region. They discussed freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and tensions with Iran.
Ukraine launched another major attack on Russian ships in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. The strike count was later updated to 29 Russian ships hit overnight.
Fires were detected from burning ships in the Sea of Azov. At least four ships were hit in Taganrog Bay alone.
Russia also launched a large drone and missile attack on Kyiv. Explosions were reported in the city, and smoke rose after a missile impact.
