Why we’re tracking it
Robert Pape believes the Iran conflict is moving towards American boots on the ground. During the interview, he argued that pressure to reopen shipping routes and contain the economic consequences of the conflict could push the United States towards a limited ground operation.
The interesting part is that he attached both a high probability and a short timetable to it. That makes this a clear prediction we can return to, rather than a broad warning about something that might happen eventually.
What Robert Pape said
At 1:03:27, Pape was asked how likely a limited US ground operation with troops inside Iran had become. He answered that it was well over 50% and bordering on 70%.
When the host repeated the 70% figure at 1:06:24, Pape said it could happen within the next month, perhaps sooner.
