Ukraine to Resume Strikes on Russian Oil Refineries

Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine will resume strikes on Russian oil refineries, arguing that Moscow had not honoured an energy ceasefire. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said no ceasefire existed and dismissed Donald Trump’s announcement as “just words.” Ukraine also said a new Russian drone assault targeted energy, railway and logistics infrastructure. Officials reported six people killed and 13 wounded in Lutsk.

Ukraine said an unannounced speed limit on military-grade Starshield terminals disrupted missions and could weaken drone interception. Ukrainian accounts put the limit at between 100 and 160 kilometres an hour. Elon Musk said the US government controls Starshield’s limits, while Ukraine sought explanations from Washington, SpaceX and NATO. Zelensky also criticised what he called the withdrawal of US intelligence sharing.

The Singapore-registered container ship GFS Pride sank in the Strait of Hormuz after being hit and catching fire. Its crew evacuated without reported injuries. Another bulk carrier sank Wednesday after an attack last month, the International Maritime Organization said. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards separately said a container ship carrying more than 2,500 containers had struck a mine after taking an unauthorised route.

US inflation reached 3.7% in September, above the 3.6% forecast. Gasoline prices rose 9.1% during the month and fuel oil gained 15.3%. Expectations of an October interest-rate increase climbed from 21% to 33% in one market. Citigroup now expects a quarter-point rise in December. The dollar reached an 18-month high, while the Nasdaq fell 2%.
